The Current Streaming In-Studio Performances

A year or so ago, Minnesota Public Radio jumped into the indie rock world when it launched The Current, an entire radio station (not just a two-hour show) dedicated to indie rock. Well, one part of the programming on The Current involves asking musicians to play live in the studio. It's cliche and every station does it but it does periodically yield some worthwhile performances.

The Current makes those performaces available on their website where you can stream the audio. It's a damn impressive list of artists that have played there since the beginning of the year. The National, Brendan Benson, Hockey Night, Ted Leo, Bob Mould, Eels, Thievery Corporation, Of Montreal, M. Ward, Mike Doughty, Wedding Present, The Shins, Bloc Party, Lou Barlow, The Hold Steady, Andrew Bird and many many others have their performances available on their site.

I had a little trouble getting the 128K mp3 files to stream through iTunes but the Real Audio files played without any problems.

By the way, you can also stream the station's live broadcast via their website too.
