Shark vs. Octopus

After a weekend of hanging out with some friends who would argue over which animal would win a fight between an alligator and a polar bear, I came across this amazing video.

I still don't know who would win between an alligator and a polar bear but the shark vs. octopus debate is pretty well settled.

I would argue that a polar bear would tear an alligator to shreds. Polar bears are COMPLETELY carnivorous. I've seen film footage of a polar bear killing, hauling from the water onto the ice and then eating a big ass beluga whale. I would also believe that the bears; strenght, thick fur and massive fat layer would protect it from a bite even from a powerful aligator. Polar bears are also powerful swimmers, so even in the water, they could fare well. The "Crocodile Hunter", Steve Irwin jumps on alligators all the time, but not onto the backs of polar bears. No way Mate. ( forgive my spelling, do blogs have spellcheck?)

I agree with you. However, the "alligator camp" argued that alligators are much quicker and more used to attacking large prey. I've seen videos of alligators taking down antelopes as they cross a shallow river.

Your point about the "Crocodile Hunter" is a good one. I'll have to remember that point the next time the discussion comes up.

My wife says "water temp would affect the outcome". Fight in Fla.=gator wins. Fight on an iceburg=bear wins.
she's funny.
The film footage you refer to, shows crocodiles hunting antelopes, not alligators. True crocodiles are bad ass, more so than gators. My money is still on the polar bear.
