2006 Year End Survey | Greg Davis

To kick off the year end surveys, we are starting with the only Vermont musician to score a 7.8 from Pitchfork. Greg Davis teamed up with Parisian Sebastien Roux on an album of beautiful electronic folk music called Paquet Surprise.

1) What was your favorite song of 2006?

the skygreen leopards 'disciples of california'
(the whole album is a wonderfully sunny california byrds-ian pop album)

3) What was your favorite concert of 2006?

my favorite thing this year was bringing various friends and
musicians to burlington to play shows and getting a small scene for
different musics happening here.
some highlights: glenn jones, sean smith, the wind up bird, christina
carter, max ochs, sean mcmillen, james blackshaw, zach wallace's
harmonica piece, kurt weisman, nest material, keith fullerton
whitman, yacht.

antony milton and campbell kneale at happy in wellington.
kira kira at kaffi hljomalind in reykjavik.

4) What was your favorite thing about 2006?

kicking off the year with a great west coast tour with sebastien roux
& bird show in january.
prepared piano pieces in iceland in february.
john cage concert series at the firehouse in march / april.
playing with the books in may.
touring australia and new zealand with jeph jerman in july.
playing at the erstquake festival in september.
democrats taking control of the house and senate in november.

5) What are your best wishes for 2007?


love, peace and happiness for all sentient and non-sentient beings.
hope for a quieter (collective) mind and listening without prejudice.

If you'd like to see Davis live, he'll be playing on Tue, Dec 5th in Burlington at the Firehouse Center for Visual Arts. Avey Tare of Animal Collective and, his wife, Kria Brekken will also be on the bill. Casey Rea has a lengthy interview with Tare up on solidstate.

I just listened to "Paquet Surprise" last night for the first time--what an amazing album! Can't wait for tomorrow night's show.
