VPR Friday at Noon Performances | Tegan & Sara

If you're looking for a good way to kick off the weekend, try a pair of Canadian twins during lunch on Friday. What? Nevermind.

VPR's Friday at Noon webcasts of live performances from WXPN will feature blogo-darlings Tegan & Sara this week. Most of the folk-rock tunes they'll be playing will be off their fab new album The Con which came out last week. The album tilts much more to the rock and pop of their sound than their earlier folk sound but they transfered their sound pretty well.

To be clear, this isn't over the air in your car radio; just online through your speakers at work. Hopefully, when VPR fully kicks classical music programming over to VPR Classical later this year, these Friday at Noon performances will get bumped up to the main "over-the-air" signal. However, for now, you can still dig the show online. Additionally, the previous fourteen months of performances are archived on VPR's site.

In another musical VPR note, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals have recorded the new theme song for VPR's Vermont Edition. Vermont Edition, a call-in discussion show of Vermont issues, becomes a permanent weekday feature on August 13 (noon) as the replacement for the old Switchboard. To jazz up the show, they asked the band to come into their studios and knock out an instrumental theme song. It's nothing fancy but it sounds pretty good; appealing to the hippies and not offensive to the geriatric Alzheimer clan looking for their afternoon Bach.
