Danny Schmidt & Anais Mitchell | Coming to Langdon Street Cafe | Aug 8

Austin, TX via Charlottesvill, VA folkstar Danny Schmidt is bringing his stories and swagger to Montpelier on Wednesday when he opens for Montpelier's own Anais Mitchell:

Anais Mitchell w/ Danny Schmidt - August 8th - Langdon Street Cafe - Montpelier

Here's the press on Danny Schmidt: Danny is a writer's writer, with a lyrical depth drawing comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Dave Carter, and Townes Van Zandt. Sing Out magazine called Danny the best new songwriter they'd heard in 15 years. Midnight Special's national syndicated radio program proclaimed Danny latest CD, Parables & Primes, to be one of the five most significant albums in the last twenty years. His musical style draws from deeply-rooted Appalachian mountain gospel to haunted English balladry, from syncopated Piedmont country blues to vagabond 60’s protest folk-stumpery. But it all blends into a singular style all his own.

Anais is an engaging pixie-sounding broad who isn't afraid of tackling tough subjects. It isn't surprising that she was recently signed to Ani Difranco's Righteous Babe Records, as she shares a lot with the urban folk heroine. Anais has a fantastic presence, stories real and tangible, and an infectious voice. I saw her at the Folk Opera Hadestown back in the winter and was blown away. This will prove to be a fantastic show.
