This post is more of a public service announcement than anything fun. However, I just spent ten minutes online trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do with some compact fluorescent bulbs that no longer work (because I was an idiot and put them in a light with a dimmer switch).
You can't toss them in the garbage due to the mercury in the bulbs. Therefore, in Vermont, you can recycle them by bringing them to certain participating hardware stores (where, hopefully, some dude making $8.15 an hour won't just toss them in the dumpster behind the building). You are allowed to drop off up to six bulbs at a time.
You can find the list of participating stores here. It looks like Nelson Harware in Barre and Sticks and Stuff in Middlesex are the closest for Montpelier.
