Ray LaMontagne Covers Gnarls Barkley | UPDATE

You know a song is exploding when artists from other genres start covering it. Kind of like a few years ago when you had bands like Drive-By Truckers covering Outkast's "Hey Ya". Well, singer/songwriter Ray LaMontagne has stepped up with an acoustic cover of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy". The nice thing here is that it works.

Also, Analog Giant has a video of Gnarls Barkley performing "Crazy" live on Tops of the Pops. The sailor's uniform is an interesting touch.

UPDATE: "Crazy" is quickly becoming the new "Love Tears Us Apart". Here are two more covers of the song. Both are acoustic and from recent performance on BBC Live. I like the one from The Kooks more.

The Kooks | Crazy
Nelly Furtado | Crazy

Thanks for the reference Murph. I would disagree with your "works" statement. Its better then the Editors cover of the Gorillaz track BUT I just don't think this song has the same type of power without Cee-Lo Green's amazing vocals. Just my two cents.

But like we talked about its going to be a hit with the kids. They can never get enough covers.

I like it for the same reasons I like M. Ward's quiet acoustic cover of Bowie's "Last Dance". It takes a song where I'm head-bopping to the groove and strips it down to reveal the beauty of the lyrics.

The original is a fun song but I never realized the lyrics have a sad plaintive quality to them. So, because it shows a different side of the song, I thought it worked for me.

Love this part:

And I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice, that's my only advice
Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are,
Ha ha ha bless your soul
You really think you’re in control

Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me

It's not a Navy uniform, it's an airline pilot's uniform.

Correct. I only keep the links to the songs active for about two or three weeks. These tracks were posted back in early June.

Is there any way you could repost the Ray covering Gnarls mp3?
