Flaming Lips Coming to Burlington | Sep 7th

I'm not going to pretend I'm a huge Flaming Lips fan because I'm not. However, I do like a lot of their new album, At War With the Mystics, and everything I've heard about their live shows makes me want to experience one.

That's why I was excited when I saw a poster in Borders in Burlington promoting a Flaming Lips concert on Thursday, Sep 7th at UVM's Patrick Gymnasium. The tickets are a bit pricey at $30 and I'm afraid of the sound of that basketball gym but how many times are we going to get to see the Lips in Burlington?

The weird thing is that the show isn't even listed on the Lips' website. But if you go to the UVM tickets site I linked to above and click on September, you'll see it listed.

Don't they get local music celebrities involved in their shows...dressed up in costumes or something? If so, I wonder if Casey will will see the inside of a costume. Ha!

By the way, there are more great photos of the Lips' show at Webster Hall in NYC this past April over on Brooklyn Vegan

I saw them at Ziggy's in Winston Salem at the end of their International Music Against Brain Degeneration Revue tour after the release of The Soft Bulletin. It was one of the most fantastic experiences of my life. I don't know how the Patrick Gym show can possibly keep up with my memories, especially since they won't be handing out headphones and the band won't be playing in a wooden pit under a carnival tent roof, but I'll definately be giving it a try.

Sorry Flatlander, but I'm afraid you are in for another Pants caliber live show let down. Despite that, I have no doubt it'll be a ton of fun.

So, they don't put together that spectacle for every show? Do they reserve it only for "special" shows?

I loved the album "Soft Bulletin," but to be honest, I can't listen to it anymore. FL are soooo played out.

And for the record, I'm a C-list local celeb at best. But they'll probably blast Trey out of a fuckin' cannon or something.

Coyne doesn't have enough acid to get me inside a smelly suit.

Thanks for the heads-up, though. UVM's SA concerts NEVER tell me what they have coming up. I wouldn't want to look stupid, now would I?

Besides the Phish boys, are there any "A" & "B" list celebrities in Vermont?

Hmmm... Howard Dean? But he doesn't play jammy guitar. At least not that I know of.

They do keep the same schtick for an entire tour. It may seem wild and crazy, but it's all choreographed and perfected to a T. Fake blood, confetti, and all.

One can only hope they put The Logger on stage. He's SO DANG FUNNY.

Ha! I like Rusty's work in my kid's farming video but that logger crap is hideous. Why is that guy popular? And that Windy Acres show was such a train wreck, I was amazed they even aired it after seeing the final cut.

Does Howard Dean even still live in VT? He seems to live at the CNN studios these days.

if the flaming lips are looking for an opening act, I think Nest Material are available.
