Fuck this. I spent a bunch of time putting together my post on the best albums of the year along with a link so readers could sample a song from the album. And what happens? The RIAA gets Blogger to delete the post. What the hell? I'm just trying to promote the artists. Screw this. I'm thinking of dumping this whole crappy blog. This is the third or fourth time recently that this has happened. I'm starting to feel that it's a waste of my time to try to help promote music. The RIAA seems to be against such promotion. So, why should I bother?
Here's the email I received:

But it's not a crappy blog. It's a great way for me and others to find out about both international and local music that you're interested in. The way you've chosen to present it here has always been reasonable, in my opinion, because you're not attempting to profit from other's hard work.
The RIAA feels otherwise of course. And we're not going to easily out-debate and out-lobby them.
But in the meantime I'd like to invoke the baby and bathwater cliche and find some kind of interim solution, however temporary you might believe it to be. Can we at least see your list stripped of it's links to audible music files?

You can try using that site - might want to investigate it a little first, though, since I just found out about it.
Bands are not required to join RIAA. It is their choice to let someone else control their rights.
Fuck em.
Such garbage. Like the few tracks you post will make artists unable to purchase their next house in Malibu. Makes you wonder when they're all going to wake up and realize they should encourage evangelism among their fans.
In the meantime, maybe you should try hosting music files with another service (like box.net or something) instead of uploading them to your blogger account. That way they can't hold your account responsible for simply linking elsewhere...
that's bullshit. you're helping people discover bands (and invite them to ask you to take down mp3s right on the blog) while millions of other people are downloading music, movies, tv shows, etc. and getting away with it.
I don't know... something should be done about this. don't quit the blog.
RIAA sucks. I hope the whole fetid major-label system that it serves crumbles.
That said, please do not drop False 45th. You'd be letting the terrorists win. This blog is great, and you've used it to spawn the Record Club, which is also great. If you're just tired of doing it and want a break, that's one thing. If not, don't let the RIAA's idoicy bring you down. Your readers will continue to appreciate F45, even without the links if that's the way it has to be.
Mike
Yes, but have you seen this?

Kinda feels like the hangover from that nice election we had recently....
I like your blog. They shouldn't do that to you. Don't let it get you down.
Another voice that appreciates F45th and your insight (& JDS's) into new music. I know it sucks to even have to deal with this bs, but I would still visit even without the mp3 samples.
Please don't quit! you are one of the handful of blogs I read!
and you do such a good job, too!
yow!
sorry to see yr list get trashed - we Smittens were so proud to be on it!
