2007 Year End Survey | Small Dog Electronics

If I can sum up 2007 for myself, it's been the Year of the Apple. After years nursing along an ancient computer (Gateway running Windows 98) and an mp3 player that I picked up for $3.99, I finally took the plunge and purchased a silver and black iMac and iPod Classic. I'm not usually one to celebrate material possessions, but I can't believe how much of a difference it has made. Good bye same 40 songs that I've heard repeated through every lawn mow because I can't seem to get them off the broken music player, hello listening by genre!

My supplier has been Small Dog Electronics - the little/big Apple specialty shop headquartered in the Mad River Valley. They have a busy flagship store in Burlington, an online empire, and advertisements in the back of Rolling Stone, but it's the Waitsfield shop that makes it all happen. The employee owned Small Dog has become a heavyweight in the Apple world, now the nation's third largest Apple reseller, without letting go of the idealism of the 60s that put it's creator, Don Mayer, on the path. I imagine the hipster geeks taking xc ski lunch breaks along the majestic Mad River Path or powder days at Mad River Glen. They must, as the are always alert, helpful, and laid back. Plus, my son ends up with a package of miniature dogs after every visit.

Here are responses from two of the fine folks that keep us Apple happy, Rob Amon and Kali Hilke.

(see her here impersonating Ms. Leslie Hall of the LY's)

1) What was your favorite song of 2007?

Her Hairagami Set, The Brunettes. love the haunting melody, and the video is intriguingly bizarre. i dig both vocals, and i think her voice is amazing.

2) What was your favorite album of 2007?

tie between The Brunettes, Structure & Cosmetics and
Iron & Wine, The Shepherd's Dog (I have a soft spot for them)

there was so much good music out there though… many bands deserve more of a listen than i gave them!

3) What was your favorite concert of 2007?

unfortunately, i didn't see one concert in 2007. should have seen neil young. however, now that we live in VT near burlington, we're going to take in as many shows at higher ground as we can.

4) What was your favorite thing about 2007?

personally, it would have to be the move to VT for the new job, which coincided with my one year wedding anniversary. we've met so many good people here, and it looks like 2008 will be just as fantastic.

5) What are your best wishes for 2008?

take a honeymoon! i hope that family and friends have continued health and happiness in '08 and keep on saving the world.
