Bob Dylan Baby Names

Last week, I was talking to a co-worker about potential names for their second child. On the list was both Sara and Lily. Combined with the fact that their son's name is Dylan, I noticed a trend...Dylanesque baby names.

Sara was the name of Dylan's first wife and Lily is prominent in the
Blood On the Tracks classic "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts". So, that got me thinking of what other atypical names would be available if you wanted to keep a Dylan theme to your kid's names.

Girls
Marie
Angelina
Corrina
Delia
Hazel
Sadie
Isis
Maggie
Rosemary
Peggy Day
Jane
Silvio
Suze
Hattie
Ramona
Johanna

Boys
Hollis
Davey
Willie
Catfish
Rueben
Joey
Woody
Homer
Percy
Quinn
Frankie Lee
Montgomery

I actually proposed Isis to my wife as a name for one of our kids. However, within a split second, she came back with, "It's a child, not a dog." I'm not sure what she meant by that but it was pretty funny.

If anyone can think of any that I've missed, let me know.

  1. Good post.

No room for a lil Hurricane?

    Maybe not.

I pitched Deanna as a name for our daughter (Nick Cave song/slight Deanna Durbin obsession). That pitch also failed, just not as amusingly.

  2. Heh heh... um, my stepdaughter's middle name ain't Isis for nothing. And we're planning on having another one, so this list could come in very handy indeed.

  3. I put Rueben on the list but, you're right, if you really wanted to be bold, you could just go with "Hurricane".

Yankunian, I'm glad to hear Isis has made it into the universe of names. I think Peggy Day would be a good choice for the #2.

  4. My suggestion:
Louise (and her lover so entwined).

    My question:
Is Silvio a male name in U.S. ?

  5. Well, for the boys list, there's also Judas (as in Judas Priest), though I suspect that wouldn't be a popular choice, and, of course, Bob.

  8. Those are some good names. My parents gave me Dylan as a middle-name as they were also big fans of Bob Dylan.

The name Dylan itself is still pretty popular these days:

  23. Great List. I had twin girls and one was given the middle name Isis. I tried for it to be a first name but that did not work out so well.

I pitched for a boy Durango but got the same "it's kid not a dog" response as you :)
