Sara was the name of Dylan's first wife and Lily is prominent in the Blood On the Tracks classic "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts". So, that got me thinking of what other atypical names would be available if you wanted to keep a Dylan theme to your kid's names.

I actually proposed Isis to my wife as a name for one of our kids. However, within a split second, she came back with, "It's a child, not a dog." I'm not sure what she meant by that but it was pretty funny.
If anyone can think of any that I've missed, let me know.

Good post.
ReplyDeleteNo room for a lil Hurricane?
Maybe not.
I pitched Deanna as a name for our daughter (Nick Cave song/slight Deanna Durbin obsession). That pitch also failed, just not as amusingly.
Heh heh... um, my stepdaughter's middle name ain't Isis for nothing. And we're planning on having another one, so this list could come in very handy indeed.
ReplyDeleteI put Rueben on the list but, you're right, if you really wanted to be bold, you could just go with "Hurricane".
ReplyDeleteYankunian, I'm glad to hear Isis has made it into the universe of names. I think Peggy Day would be a good choice for the #2.
My suggestion:
ReplyDeleteLouise (and her lover so entwined).
My question:
Is Silvio a male name in U.S. ?
Well, for the boys list, there's also Judas (as in Judas Priest), though I suspect that wouldn't be a popular choice, and, of course, Bob.

Magdalena -- Romance in Durango.
ReplyDeleteThose are some good names. My parents gave me Dylan as a middle-name as they were also big fans of Bob Dylan.
ReplyDeleteThe name Dylan itself is still pretty popular these days:

Silvio is a mans name.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the obvious "Jack" or the only slightly less obvious "Blue?"
ReplyDeleteGood catch on Silvio. I'll add the other suggestions and correct Silvio tonight. Thanks for the tips.

ReplyDeleteHow about Blind Boy Grunt?
If your gonna have a girl and your looking for a Dylan connection, just pick any womans name on the planet. I'm sure he probably has kids in every state (and every country). How bout' Casanova or Don Juan if it's a boy......
ReplyDeleteOh, how could have anyone forgotten Magdalena from Romance in Durango!?!?!? One of my faves!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to give our daughter the middle name "Absolutely Sweet Marie", but it was quickly denied with laughter.
ReplyDeleteHere is a list of all of Bob Dylan's songs that mention ladies names.

Thanks for the info, we were going with Johanna, and looking for a middle name, looks like Marie might get the nod

Great List. I had twin girls and one was given the middle name Isis. I tried for it to be a first name but that did not work out so well.
ReplyDeleteI pitched for a boy Durango but got the same "it's kid not a dog" response as you :)
ahhha wow; gayest page ever !
