Also, Analog Giant has a video of Gnarls Barkley performing "Crazy" live on Tops of the Pops. The sailor's uniform is an interesting touch.
Ray LaMontagne | Crazy (Gnarls Barkley cover)
UPDATE: "Crazy" is quickly becoming the new "Love Tears Us Apart". Here are two more covers of the song. Both are acoustic and from recent performance on BBC Live. I like the one from The Kooks more.
The Kooks | Crazy
Nelly Furtado | Crazy
Thanks for the reference Murph. I would disagree with your "works" statement. Its better then the Editors cover of the Gorillaz track BUT I just don't think this song has the same type of power without Cee-Lo Green's amazing vocals. Just my two cents.
ReplyDeleteBut like we talked about its going to be a hit with the kids. They can never get enough covers.
I like it for the same reasons I like M. Ward's quiet acoustic cover of Bowie's "Last Dance". It takes a song where I'm head-bopping to the groove and strips it down to reveal the beauty of the lyrics.
ReplyDeleteThe original is a fun song but I never realized the lyrics have a sad plaintive quality to them. So, because it shows a different side of the song, I thought it worked for me.
Love this part:
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice, that's my only advice
Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are,
Ha ha ha bless your soul
You really think you’re in control
Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me
It's not a Navy uniform, it's an airline pilot's uniform.

ReplyDeleteCorrect. I only keep the links to the songs active for about two or three weeks. These tracks were posted back in early June.
ReplyDeleteIs there any way you could repost the Ray covering Gnarls mp3?
ReplyDeletecan you re-post the kooks and nelly furtado as well?
